On Wednesday 5th February Bill and Val drove down to Bristol, calling in at their daughter Terri’s home in Chippenham on the for lunch. After lunch they continued their journey to the Winford Manor hotel. They deposited their car and checked in. The following day they were transported to Bristol airport from where they flew to Milan (Bergamo) airport. They were collected and taken to the Hotel Bazzoni in the resort Tremezzo on the shore of Lake Como.

On Friday 7th February they were taken to the city of Como ad took a trip on the funicular railway to the little village of Brunate. From here they witnessed some spectacular views across the lake. They returned down the mountain and ambled around this picturesque place.

The following day they took a coach trip and crossed the border into Switzerland to a town called Laguna. They toured the town on a land train then spent time wandering around looking at the beautiful surroundings.

Sunday 8th February they took a trip into the city of Milan. On arrival they were met by a local guide who gave a potted history of the city. We walked through the castle to the city centre where a most beautiful cathedral is located. They also walked through the gallery where the major fashion houses have their outlets. The prices were outrageous. Bill however was in his element for he loves trams and they were everywhere. On their travels they came across an ice cream parlour and if in Italy you just can’t walk past one.

Monday 10th February was the highlight of the holiday, a train trip to St Moritz. A coach took them to Tirana then they climbed aboard the Bernina Express, a narrow gauge railway that takes you on a sixty mile trip through south east Switzerland crossing 196 bridges and viaducts and goes through 56 tunnels on its 1,346 metre climb to St Moritz. The views, including that of the Bruiso spiral and the Bernina pass, were stunning particularly as there was plenty of snow around. On arrival at St Moritz they spent a little while wandering around but it was mostly high end fashion shops. They returned to the hotel by coach and this journey was equally as exhilarating with plenty of hairpin bends down through the mountains.

Tuesday 11th February was their final day in Italy, They were taken back to the airport and they flew back to Bristol. After collecting their car they drove home calling in again at Terri’s on their way.

In the year 2020 Val and Bill Butcher celebrate their Golden Wedding. The actual date is 4th July but we will celebrate throughout the year. We have many plans but the main one is the Florida holiday in April/May. We shall fly to Disney World and stay in Port Orleans resort for a week then cruise on a Disney ship around the Caribbean then return to Disney World and spend a week at the Animal Kingdom Savannah Resort. All deposits have been paid and we are getting excited.

Northern Cyprus    3rd - 11th March 2020 On Tuesday 3rd March Bill and Val drove to the Ibis Hotel on the outskirts of Gatwick Airport, they stayed the night, left the car and took the shuttle bus to the North Terminal. From there they flew to Antalia, Turkey. Here they had to disembark, clear immigration and customs then reboard the plane for the onward trip to Ercan in Northern Cyprus. After having to clear immigration and customs again they transferred to their hotel in Famagusta arriving about half past midnight local time. They remained in this resort for three nights and whilst there visited Nicosia, the nearby St Barnabas monastery, the ruin city of Salmis, Dipkarpaz, St Andrew’s monastery, the Golden beach and a little village    of Komi Kebir on the Karpasir peninsular. The Big Day 4th July 2020

The Big Day 4th July 2020 Followers of this blog will know it was Bill & Val’s intention to celebrate their Golden Wedding with a number of events throughout the year of 2020. Unfortunately the Corona virus took a hold and scuppered their plans. Since the last post they missed out on a number of caravan outings, two Florida Disney parks, a Caribbean cruise and a trip to Disneyland Paris. They also missed out on a trip to the Norfolk show and other trips post anniversary. They are obviously disappointed however some of these events are merely postponed. One thing that wasn’t go to happen was to have the actu al date pass by unrecognised. The party planned didn’t happen but with the slight easing of restrictions they were able to open their garden to friends of family within the limits of the legislation.  The celebrations haven’t ended with the arrival of 4th July, they have decided they have been married 50 years until its 51.
